Priority 02

Transportation & Infrastructure — Let’s Get PoCo Moving

Port Coquitlam’s growth should not outpace the roads, sidewalks, crossings and infrastructure residents rely on every day. Transportation studies need to lead to decisions, funding and construction—not simply more studies. I will focus on moving long-promised transportation and infrastructure projects forward, improving connections throughout the city, and providing residents with clear information about what has been completed, what remains stalled and what comes next.

Port Coquitlam residents have heard many of the same transportation projects discussed for years. Studies and planning are necessary, but they must lead to decisions, funding and construction.

Residents deserve clear public reporting showing what has been completed, what remains stalled, who is responsible and what the next steps are.

I will advocate for coordinated action on these longstanding transportation priorities:

  • SKYTRAIN TO PORT COQUITLAM — Complete the required business case and build the regional and provincial support needed to extend SkyTrain service to Port Coquitlam.
  • FREMONT CONNECTOR — Secure the required funding and move this long-overdue project from preliminary design and an agreement-in-principle to actual construction.
  • LINCOLN AVENUE CONNECTOR — Advance a more direct connection between north Port Coquitlam and the Coquitlam Central and Lincoln SkyTrain stations.
  • COQUITLAM RIVER BRIDGE ON LOUGHEED HIGHWAY — Press for replacement and upgrading of this aging bridge to improve safety and traffic flow.
  • MARY HILL BYPASS — Advocate for safety, capacity and traffic-flow improvements along this important regional route.
  • SHAUGHNESSY STREET UNDERPASS — Pursue improvements that make this crossing safer and more dependable for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians.
  • CPKC RAILWAY OVERPASS — Work with CPKC, senior governments and regional partners to deliver the long-promised railway overpass.
  • TRANSIT AND REGIONAL CONNECTIONS — Improve bus service and connections to SkyTrain and West Coast Express.
  • INFRASTRUCTURE WITH DEVELOPMENT — Ensure roads, transit and other transportation infrastructure are planned and delivered before or alongside new development — not years after.

Some of these projects fall under the responsibility of TransLink, the Province, CPKC, the federal government or neighbouring municipalities. Port Coquitlam cannot deliver them alone — but it can and must advocate persistently for progress.

I will push for:

  • Defined responsibilities for every major transportation project
  • Clear timelines and identifiable next steps
  • Coordinated advocacy involving all responsible governments and agencies
  • Regular public progress reports showing which projects are moving and which remain stalled
  • Transportation planning that anticipates growth instead of continually reacting to it
